I like to start Natal Readings by giving an overview of a person's psychology. I feel it's beneficial for people to understand how their mind works, because it makes it easier to identify thought patterns as they happen. It helps identify unproductive desires and letting them go, ultimately supporting the development of a permanent state of equanimity throughout a person’s life. To give you an idea on what this part of the Natal Reading can reveal, let’s go through parts of Obama’s psychology. A person’s psychology is determined by 3 things: the ascendant (the point rising in the East at the time of birth), and the Sun and the Moon. In this post we will be focusing on his ascendant and Sun. Obama’s ascendant (the top diamond where it says “As”) is in Capricorn, which makes him a pragmatic and hardworking person. There are two planets in the ascendant: Saturn and Jupiter. Saturn, the planet of hard work and discipline, emphasizes his pragmatic and diligent qualities to another level, while Jupiter in Capricorn makes him feel like he is never knowledgeable enough. These planets form a unique cocktail that make him an industrious scholar, like a college professor surrounded with books.
The ascendant is in a Nakshatra (constellation) called Dhanishtha. These Nakshatras are 27 constellations in the sky that overlap the 12 signs. Because these constellations are smaller, each sign has multiple Nakshatras. Dhanishtha’s desire is to “revolve around the summit of the Gods”, and so makes the person aspire to be among elite and famous in society. This manifested in Obama’s life as pushing him to become President. Herein lies the beauty of these Nakshatras - without them, an astrologer may have predicted that the chart’s ascendant shows the psychology of a college professor. It’s only with Dhanishtha can we flesh out Obama’s ambitious nature. Obama’s Jupiter and Saturn are in Uttara Ashadha, symbolized by the tusk of an elephant. This is related to the story of how Ganesha broke off his tusk and used it as a pen to write the Mahabharata, because he couldn’t find a pen nearby (!) This brings writing and analytical ability into Obama’s life, and he probably writes to clarify his thoughts. His Sun is in the house of partnerships, and is in a Nakshatra called Ashlesha. Ashlesha’s Shakti or energy is the power to poison. It is symbolized by a coiled snake, and its desire it overcome enemies. When applied to the house of partnerships, this is exactly what a politician would have to go through - constantly dealing with shifting alliances and toxic partnerships. Putting everything together, Obama’s ascendant shows an intelligent, well-read, and hardworking person, and a person that also has the drive and determination required to rise to the top of his chosen field. His Sun in Ashlesha shows political savvy, and brings the ability to overcome his political rivals and opponents. This psychological combination shows a leader who makes decisions after careful deliberation, and also only after considering all the consequences. These are are wonderful psychological traits to have in a leader, making Obama a competent leader. In this post, we will examine the psychological tendencies of Donald Trump, the current Republican Presidential candidate. These psychological tendencies, when fleshed out clearly, can be a useful tool in increasing the awareness of the client’s own thought patterns. Mr Trump’s ascendant (rising sign in the East when he was born) is in Leo, the sign of expression, drama, and flair. This theme is continued with his Sun being placed in the 10th house (career), making him project his personality out into the world. His Sun is in Taurus, the sign of material wealth, which makes him want to show the world a strong financial position. Specifically, his finances are tied to property, as his ascendant is in the constellation of Magha, symbolized by a throne room. Donald Trump’s Moon is in Scorpio, a metamorphic sign full of upheavals and change, where the Moon’s peaceful, caring and nurturing energies are not expressed easily. This shows a completely different internal thought patterning than the brave and fearless Leo ascendant. Ketu, the planet that brings disappointments, is also placed here, making him feel emotionally unsatisfied. In addition to both these negative placements, two fiery planets Mars and the Sun are also looking at the Moon, giving him a tendency to feel angry often. All these factors combined give Trump an unsettled mind, prone to fluster and distress.
The Leo ascendant gives him a strong desire to tell you his story, and combined with the aforementioned agitated mind, this makes him have a tendency to feel inferior and overcompensate. The Moon and Ketu are both placed in a constellation called Jyeshtha. Jyeshtha is ruled by Indra, the ruler of the heavenly beings in the Vedas. He is a conquering warrior, and has many physical encounters with women. The negative placement of the Moon here suggests that he may have the tendency to feel inferior and overcompensate in battle (business) and with women. An example of this was when he masqueraded as his own publicist and spoke about himself in third person: “Actresses, just call to see if they can go out with him and things”, that Madonna “wanted to go out with him”, and that Trump had “three other girlfriends.” Combined, both psychological tendencies play themselves out, as Trump is inwardly uncertain but wants to project an outward show of confidence to the world. |
